☀ India’s first paperless court has been inaugurated at the Hyderabad High Court, which uses digitised case records to allow “better access to justice for public”.
☀ India now has the 6th highest number of culturally and historically important places in the world, with total 35 sites featuring in UNESCO’s World Heritage list. This happened after UNESCO added three more Indian sites to the list. These sites are;
- Khangchendzonga National Park in Sikkim.

- The ruins of Nalanda University in Bihar.

☀ Judges at the Calcutta High Court have unanimously “declined to accept” the Centre’s recent proposal to rename the court as ‘Kolkata High Court’. They have cited the court’s “long history and tradition associated with the existing name” as the reason for this denial.
☀ ‘Amudham Thaippal Maiyam’ (ATM), a bank which offers mother’s milk, has been opened in Puducherry. This is an initiative by Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) that aims to save premature born babies from undernourishment.
☀ The Parliament has passed the Regional Centre for Biotechnology Bill, 2016 to provide statutory status to the existing Regional Centre for Biotechnology in Faridabad, Haryana. The Bill also confers upon it the status of an institution of national importance.

☀ To boost credit growth in the economy, Centre has announced a sum of Rs.22,915 crore for recapitalisation of 13 public sector banks under the INDRADHANUSH PLAN FOR REVAMP OF PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS. The State Bank of India (SBI) will receive the largest allocation of Rs.7,575 crore. The infusions required in the current year were assessed from the CAGR of credit growth for the last five years and the banks’ projections of its credit growth.
About Mission Indradhanush:
A brainchild of PJ Nayak committee, it aims to revamp the functioning of public sector banks so that PSBs can compete with the Private Sector Banks. It is launched by Ministry of Finance under the Department of Financial Services. This mission is regarded as one of the big steps after the nationalisation of banks in 1970s.
- The mission includes 7 key reforms of: Appointments, Board of bureau, Capitalisation, De-stressing, Empowerment, Framework of accountability and Governance reforms.
☀ The World Bank (WB) has confirmed New York University’s economics professor Paul Romer as its next Chief Economist. Romer will replace Kaushik Basu, who is an ex-Chief Economic Adviser to the Indian government.
☀ Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple Trust has tied up with SBI CAP securities to provide an electronic platform to donate in the form of shares or stocks of listed entities.
☀ Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency (MUDRA) CEO Jiji Mammen announced that the target for banks during 2016-17 is to disburse ₹1.8 lakh crore as loans under the MUDRA scheme.
