☀ 26th July is celebreated as 17th Kargil Victory Day (Kargil Vijay Diwas). It is named after the success of Operation Vijay. This day is in honour of the Kargil War’s Heroes. On 26 July 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts in Kargil which had been lost to Pakistani intruders.
☀ The Union Government is planning to redraw Red Corridor by reducing the number of Maoist (LWE: Left wing extremism) affected districts by about a 5th of present level.
☀ The Supreme Court has allowed a petitioner rape victim (after she challenged Section 3 (2) (b) of the 1971 Act), to medically terminate her 24 week pregnancy due to the abnormalities in her foetus. The Centre has thereby clarified that a 20-week cap on termination of pregnancy will not be applicable in case the life of the woman is found to be in danger. Henceforth, there will not be any time limit for conducting an abortion in case the woman is in danger.
☀ Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has launched a pilot project of e-complaint system on an experimental basis in Pune. It will be launched across the state in next eight months.

IMF chief Christine Lagarde said that there was a consensus that more needs to be done to share benefits of growth and economic openness among stakeholders.
☀ The members of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have resolved an on-going deadlock and issued a joint statement that the ASEAN remains “seriously concerned” over recent developments in the South China sea issue.

- It is a regional organisation comprising 10 Southeast Asian states.
- These are – Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar (Burma), and Vietnam.

- Aimed to promote intergovernmental cooperation and facilitate economic integration amongst its members.
☀ The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) have launched the second phase of the Feed the Future: India Triangular Training Programme. It will give specialized agriculture training to 1,500 agricultural professional across Africa and Asia. The new programme will be for 4 years.

☀ The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of ₹5 crore on Bank of Baroda in the alleged ₹6,000 crore forex related irregularities, observed in October last year. The RBI found weaknesses and failures in the bank’s internal control mechanisms including transaction monitoring, and assigning of Unique Customer Identification Code.
☀ US internet firm Yahoo has been acquired by American telecoms giant Verizon Communications for nearly $ 5 billion (£3.8bn) in cash. Yahoo will now be combined with AOL, another faded internet star, which Verizon bought last year.
☀ FMCG major ITC appointed Sanjiv Puri as its Chief Operating Officer (COO) for overseeing the FMCG, paperboards, paper and packaging, and agri businesses of ITC.
