☀ The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has launched an anti-diabetic ayurvedic drug BGR-34, designed for type 2 Diabetes mellitus.
- BGR-34 is developed jointly by National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP).
- It has been economically priced at 5 rupees per tablet.
- While the modern diabetes drugs are known for side-effects and toxicity, BGR-34 works by controlling blood sugar and limiting the harmful effects of other drugs.
☀ Union Health Minister JP Nadda said nursing courses can be blended with the flagship scheme skill India training courses to counter the shortage of nursing staff. The government is committed to provide accessible, affordable and quality training to the nurses.
☀Uttar Pradesh government has declared that all natural calamities including unseasonal heavy rain, lightning, Loo and storm etc will be treated as state disaster. All the victims of these disasters will be given relief as per provisions made under State Disaster Relief Fund by the Central government.
- Note that: Earlier the victims of lightning, storm and heat stroke etc were given very little compensation by local administration.
☀ Three Indian naval ships – INS Sahyadri, INS Shakti and INS Kirch, have reached Russia as part of efforts to enhance maritime cooperation between the navies of both countries. During the visit, the ships will have professional interactions with the Russian Navy aimed at enhancing co-operation between the two forces.

☀ Thailand will hold a referendum on 7 August this year on a draft constitution, in the first such vote since the National Council for Peace and Order assumed power in May 2014.
☀ Israel and Turkey announced a deal to end a six-year-long diplomatic standoff between them. It began when nine Turkish activists were shot dead by the Israeli Navy in 2010. These Turkish activists were on an aid-vessel bound for the Gaza Strip in Palestine. As part of the deal, $20 million will be provided in compensation for the families of those killed.
☀ Two Indians, Kartik Sawhney and Neha Swain, have won the Queen’s Young Leaders Award 2016. This honours people from Commonwealth nations for their exemplary work.
- Sawhney has founded Project STEMAccess for universal access to education.
- Swain has founded an NGO to provide an inclusive space to people from all backgrounds.
☀ German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that there can be no negotiations with Britain on the country’s departure from the European Union (BREXIT) until London formally declared its intention to quit the bloc by invoking Article 50.

☀ The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed startups with an overseas subsidiary to open foreign currency accounts with a bank outside India. These bank accounts will help the startups to credit foreign exchange earnings from exports and sales. RBI has mandated that the balance in such accounts, to the extent they represent exports, should be returned to India.
☀ Government has appointed Sujoy Bose, as the Chief Executive Officer of National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF). He is presently the Director and Global Co-Head, Infrastructure and Natural Resources, International Finance Corporation, Washington.
The NIIF has been established with the aim to attract investment from both domestic and international sources for infrastructure development in commercially viable projects. It has been incorporated as a company under the Companies Act, 2013, duly authorized to act as investment manager of National Investment and Infrastructure Fund.
☀ The Union Rural Development Ministry and ISRO, Department of Space have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for geo-tagging the assets created under MGNREGA in each gram panchayat to monitor rural development. Note that: Annually around 30 lakh assets are created under the rural job schemes across the country.
