☀  19 new Ministers of State has been inducted in the Union council of Ministers.

☀ Prakash Javadekar has been appointed the Human Resource Development Minister, replacing Smriti Irani from the post after the Union Cabinet reshuffle. Irani has now been shifted to the Ministry of Textiles.

  • Note that: Javadekar had been serving as the Minister of State (MoS) for Environment since May 2014.

☀ Arun Jaitley has been replaced by Venkaiah Naidu as the Information and Broadcasting Minister. He is also the incumbent Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.

☀ Ananth Kumar has been given the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. He replaces Venkaiah Naidu.

☀ Uttar Pradesh MP Anupriya Patel, has taken oath as the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, has become the youngest minister in PM Narendra Modi’s CabinetPreviously, Smriti Irani (then 38) was the Modi Cabinet’s youngest minister.

☀  The annual Rath Yatra (Chariot festival) commences in Puri, Odisha from 6th July 2016, and its return, Bahuda Yatra will fall on 15th July 2016. The Hindu festival involves devotees carrying chariots with idols of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and sister Subhadra to visit their aunt for nine days.

☀ Indian Cabinet has given ‘in-principle’ approval for setting up a Major port at Enayam near Colachel in Tamil Nadu.

☀  Noted scientist M V Dhekane has assumed the office of Director of ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Dhekane becomes the 7th director of IISU which functions under the Department of Space.

☀ The Assam government announced a 100-day plan for the development of agriculture, urban infrastructure, and veterinary sectors in the state. The plan includes issuing soil health cards to farmers, building cold storages, setting up e-tendering of seed distribution, and urban infrastructure development.

  • Space technology would be used to check illegal mining by developing a mining surveillance system.
  • Objective is to set in motion a massive process for mineral exploration on the country that would give a major boost to the economy. 

☀ The cabinet has approved the extension of interest subvention on crop loans to farmers. It has also approved increase in foreign investment from current approved level of 62% to 74% of total paidup share capital of Axis Bank.

She also has a life-size statue of her as ‘Lois Lane’ in Metropolis, Illinois.
