>> In poll-bound Kerala, National Human Rights Commission Member Justice Cyriac Thomas has appealed to the Chief Election Commission to provide separate queues for senior citizens on the polling day. As many as 50 lakhs voters in Kerala are senior citizens, of them, 25 lakhs are aged 70 + years. The plea is in the context of the citizen’s basic right to vote in a free and peaceful atmosphere.

>> The Bombay High Court has decriminalised beef possession in Maharashtra. The High Court has struck down provisions that criminalised possession of beef of animals slaughtered outside Maharashtra. Though it upholds ban on slaughter of bulls and bullocks in the state. With this’s ruling, the burden of proving innocence will not be on individuals.

>> Supreme Court has ordered Floor test in Uttarakahand Assembly on the 10th of this month. President’s rule will be temporarily lifted for 2 hours in Uttarakhand when the vote of confidence will take place. Nine disqualified Congress MLAs will not participate in vote of confidence motion.

>> The Union Home Ministry has said, Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, AFSPA will continue to remain in force in 12 districts of Arunachal Pradesh for six more months.  Given the security scenario in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts along with areas in nine other districts of Arunachal rmain vitiated due to the spill over of Naga insurgency. Note that: Arunachal Pradesh shares a 1,126 kms of its border with China and 520 kms with Myanmar.

>> Gravitational wave scientists have won $3m Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics. It will be shared among the founders of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) group – Kip Thorne, Rainer Weiss, and Ronald Drever.
