☀ The Indian Air Force (IAF) is celebrating its 84th Anniversary on October 8th, 2016. IAF will celebrate it with a large parade and air display at the Hindon air base near Delhi. The air display will commence with flag bearing sky divers of the famous AKASH GANGA team dropping out of AN-32 aircraft in their colourful canopies.
☀ Udaipur becomes first city in the country to have an all-woman police patrol wing. Similar patrol teams would be introduced in other cities too. Note that: The lady patrol team idea has been borrowed from Italy and China, where all-woman urban management officers have revamped the image of conventional policing.
☀ Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has announced that Indo-Pak border will be completely sealed by 2018. He has chaired a meeting with CMs of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir (the states sharing border with Pakistan) in Jaisalmer for sealing of Indo-Pak border.
☀ Election Commission has said that no political party will be allowed to use public funds and government machinery to carry out activities that amount to advertisement for it. The EC has clarified that any violation of the directions will be treated as violation of a lawful direction of the Commission.
- These orders come after a July judgement of the Delhi High Court which had remanded back to the poll panel a plea seeking cancellation of Bahujan Samaj Party symbol ‘elephant’ for alleged misuse of public funds by the erstwhile Mayawati government in installing its statues across the state.
☀ Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty was appointed as the acting chief justice of the Jharkhand High Court. He is going to replace Justice Virendra Singh, who has retired.
☀ Punjab government has directed deputy commissioners of districts bordering Pakistan to ensure smooth return of people who were evacuated from their villages after the surgical strikes across LoC.

Some important defence deals under discussions are purchase are of five S-400 ‘Triumf’ long-range air defence missile systems, Kamov-28 helicopters and upgradation of the Sukhoi 30-MKIs fighter jets.
☀ Nepal government is working to amend the new Constitution to address the demands of the agitating Madhesi parties and ethnic minority groups.
- Note that: Last year, Madhesis, largely of Indian-origin, held protests for five months in southern Nepal districts to oppose the new Constitution. They claim that the federal structure incorporated in the new charter did not satisfy their demands and needs.
☀ The US has warned its citizens against non-essential travel to Pakistan, saying that the country continues to experience significant terrorist violence, including sectarian attacks. State Department advisory said that foreign and indigenous terrorist groups continue to pose a danger to US citizens throughout Pakistan.
☀ The death toll in Haiti, as a result of Hurricane Matthew, has reached to more than 800. Hurricane Matthew is currently battering the coastline of the US state of Florida but has been downgraded to a Category Two storm.

Contingent reserve arrangement, established in 2015 by BRICS member nations Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, is a framework for the provision of support through liquidity and precautionary instruments in response to actual or potential short-term balance of payments pressures.
