☀ The Union Ministry of Urban Development has approved projects worth Rs.114 crore under HRIDAY Scheme (Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana) for improving infrastructure facilities around core heritage sites in five cities. These five cities were selected based on recommendation of inter-Ministerial HRIDAY National Empowered Committee :
- Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh)
- Amritsar (Punjab)
- Dwaraka (Gujarat)
- Puri (Odisha)
- Warangal (Telangana)
☀ Doordarshan and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) have entered into an agreement for transmission of four Gyan Darshan educational channels.
- IGNOU ran the Gyan Darshan channels successfully till June 2014, but thereafter, it was shut down by ISRO to facilitate migration from INSAT 3C to GSAT-10.
☀ Maharashtra Government has allocated 40.68 hectare land to Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) to build LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory) India Project at Dudhala in Hingoli district.
- The LIGO is part of a collaboration between India and the US.
- It is a large-scale physics experiment and observatory to detect cosmic gravitational waves in the universe.
- With this, India will join elite league of countries consisting of US, UK, Italy, Germany and Japan that support on-going research on gravitational waves.
- It will be 3rd such laboratory in the world and 1st outside US.
☀ Karnataka government will celebrate Tipu Sultan Jayanti across the state on November 10 every year at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bengaluru. However, the government has shifted the responsibility of organising the event from the minorities department to the department of Kannada and culture.
☀ The Indian Territorial Army celebrates it’s 67th Raising Day.

☀ Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, who was honored with Nobel Peace Prize 2016, has became the 26th Head of State or Government to win a Nobel Prize. Santos is also the 15th Nobel Laureate in office as Head of Government at the time of the award.
- The 65-year-old received the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to bring the country’s 52-year-long civil war to an end.
- The Nobel committee praised him for a peace deal signed with Farc rebels, but rejected by Colombians in a vote.
- About 260,000 people have been killed and more than six million internally displaced in Colombia.
☀ Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn announced that government has declared a state of emergency for six months to restore “peace and stability” following violent anti-government protests.
- This comes after around 55 people died in a stampede at an anti-government protest rally.

☀ A federal appeals court in US has reinstated a $120 million jury award for Apple Inc. against Samsung, thereby marking the latest twist in the fierce patent war between the world’s top smartphone manufacturers.
- The appeal stems from a May 2014 verdict, which ordered Samsung to pay $119.6 million for using the Apple features without permission.
☀ The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has notified entities that have been granted a payments bank (PB) licence will need to take specific approval for products they would be offering to customers. In this regard, RBI has issued a separate operating guidelines for payments banks in order to focus on financial inclusion.
