☀ Former Rajasthan governor Margaret Alva’s autobiography titled “Courage & Commitment“ has been released. In this book Alva narrates her forty-year career under four Prime Ministers, namely Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, PV NarasimhaRao and Manmohan Singh. It also talks about her transition from politician to Governor.
☀ The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) has been reshuffled, with Smriti Irani being dropped as a special invitee and HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar being elevated as a member.
- Najma Heptulla, was also removed from the panel post her resignation.
- Note that : CCPA is headed by the Home Minister and is mandated to recommend the dates for Parliamentary sessions.
☀ The Government has called an all party meeting ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament beginning 18 July. The meeting seeks the support of opposition parties in the passage of pending legislations during the session. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has also convened an all party meeting to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.
☀ Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 11th meeting of the Inter-State Council (ISC) in Delhi.
- This is the first Inter-State Council meeting since 2006.
- The council is composed of : Prime Minister as the Chairman, CMs of all states and Union Terrritories, Administrators of the UTs without Legislative Assembly, Governors of States under President rule, Six Cabinet ministers including Home Minister, and nomination by the Chairman of permanent invitees from amongst the other Union Ministers.
- Modi has asked the states to focus on intelligence sharing which will help the country to stay alert and updated in countering the internal security challenges.
- Issues like inter-state relations, internal security, school education, Aadhaar card, and economic planning were also discussed in the meeting.
About Inter State Council:
Article 263 talks about Inter-State Council to effect coordination between states and Centre. The Inter-State Council is not a permanent constitutional body for coordination between the States of the Union. It can be established ‘at any time’ if it appears to the President that the public interests would be served by the establishment of such a Council.
☀ According to the recent data released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, over 14 lakh LPG connections have been released to the women of BPL families under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The scheme was launched in May this year, for providing LPG connections to five crore below-poverty-line beneficiaries over the next three years.
☀ Arunachal Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has resigned, following which the scheduled floor test will reportedly not take place. Note that: The newly elected Congress leader Pema Khandu has staked claim to form the government.

☀ Turkey‘s army had taken over the country’s administration in an attempted coup to protect the democratic order and to maintain human rights. Turkish authorities have wrested back control of the country, after crushing a military coup by a section of soldiers seeking to seize power from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

☀ The Indian Railways has launched a special train for car freight called ‘Auto Express‘ from Gurgaon to Nidvanda. With the new train, the vehicles transported between the two regions are expected to increase from the current 2,000 to 6,000 units per month.
