☀ Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people of Telangana on their Statehood Day. India’s 29th state Telangana is celebrating the second year of its formation today.

 India has gifted 2,000 bicycles to poor dalit girls in Nepal to encourage them to enrol in schools. The gifting of bicycles to poor dalit girl students programme is meant to enhance the literacy rate among girls in Nepal.


☀ President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed former IPS officer Bhim Sain Bassi as a Member of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as per provisions of Article 316 of Constitution. BS Bassi will hold the constitutional post till a maximum tenure of six years or till he attains the age of 65 years.

☀ PM Narendra Modi has released the first-ever National Disaster Management Plan, to make India disaster resilient and reduce the loss of lives and property in such events. The plan focuses on improving disaster risk governance, better preparedness and re-building post-disaster.

☀ The Union Cabinet has approved signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and United States (US) to enhance cooperation in the field of wildlife conservation and combating wildlife trafficking.

☀ The Karnataka government has invoked Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), as 50,000 policemen in the state had threatened to go on leave on June 4, while protesting against poor working conditions and wages.

  • The ESMA ensures delivery of certain services like public transport, health services, which if obstructed would affect the normal life of the people.

☀Bollywood Actor R Madhavan has become the goodwill ambassador of LEPRA India organization, also known as the Lepra Society. It fight against diseases like leprosy and tuberculosis.

☀ Aditi Krishnakumar, a 31-year-old Indian woman author in Singapore has won the ‘Scholastic Asian Book Award‘ for her manuscript “Codex: The Lost Treasure Of The Indus”.

☀ United Nations Security Council has condemned 3 recent failed ballistic missile tests by North Korea and has threatened to take further significant measures against Pyongyang.

☀ According to Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), India is projected to see a growth of around 7.5 per cent in the current fiscal even as the world economic growth is stuck in a low-growth trap. India needs improved quality of public finances by increasing tax revenue and tilting the spending mix towards physical and social infrastructure.

  • Weak trade growth, sluggish investment, subdued wages and slower activity in key emerging markets will lead to modest global GDP growth of 3 per cent in 2016.

☀ Pakistan has tightened its border security with Afghanistan, as restrictions on the Torkham border crossing came into effect. Note that: About 15,000 Afghans use the crossing every day, which will now be accessed only by people carrying a valid visa and passport.

☀ The Union Cabinet has approved India Post to set up Payments Bank. It will set up 650 branches of the postal bank across the country by September 2017. Payments bank, aimed at improving financial inclusion, allows customers to transfer money or remittances using a mobile phone.

☀ Centre has hiked the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy by 60 rupees to 1,470 rupees per quintal for kharif season 2016-17. MSP is the rate at which the government buys the grain from farmers.

☀ Iran has claimed that rising of its oil exports has no negative impact on the markets. Iranian oil minister Bijan Zanganeh, has said, markets have absorbed its doubling of oil exports following the lifting of international sanctions. Note that: Iranian oil production has reached nearly four million barrels per day, around the same level as before sanctions were imposed.

☀ The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a mobile application for telecom subscribers to register their complaints against pesky calls and SMSes. TRAI Chairman R S Sharma has released the new DND (do not disturb) services mobile app, which will help people in easily filing complaints and help the authority in monitoring such activities.

☀ The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the schedule for the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.

☀Former media professional Rahul Johri has taken charge as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This is in line with the Supreme Court-appointed Justice RM Lodha committee’s recommendation for reforms in BCCI.

☀ The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has voted in favour of professional boxers being eligible to compete in the upcoming Rio Olympic Games. The AIBA has scheduled a qualification tournament in Venezuela next month in which a total of 26 Olympic spots will be made available for world champion boxers to earn a selection to play for their national teams.


☀ Bollywood comic actor Razak Khan has passed away at age of 63 years. Razak, started his acting career with the 1993 film ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’, and appeared in over 90 films including ‘Raja Hindustani’, ‘Badshaah’, ‘Partner’ and ‘Action Jackson’.
