>> The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched the last and 7th navigation satellite IRNSS-1G successfully from Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota station.
- With this, India’s Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) will be known to the world as NAVIC, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on the occasion.
- Now India is among the only five nations that have their own navigation system. Others are : China(Beidou), USA(GPS), Russia(GLONASS), EU(Galileo).
- NAVIC will offer services like terrestrial and marine navigation, disaster management, vehicle tracking and fleet management, navigation aide for hikers and travellers, visual and voice navigation for drivers.
>> The Cabinet has approved a proposal to provide 400 hectares of barren land at Central State Farm (CSF), Jaitsar in Rajasthan for setting up of more than 200 mw solar power plant.
>> The Parliament passed two bills to repeal 1,053 obsolete laws. The Appropriation Acts (Repeal) Bill 2015 that seeks to repeal 758 old appropriation acts and The Repealing and Amending (Third) Bill 2015 to repeal 295 enactments and amend certain others.
>> The government has banned the import of dogs for breeding or any other commercial activity. The import of dogs is however allowed for defence and police forces, research by R&D organisations, and people getting pet dogs with relevant documents in the importer’s name.
>> The Union Cabinet has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Papua New Guinea on cooperation in the field of Healthcare and Medical Science. It will strengthen bilateral ties between India and Papua New Guinea.

>> The Union Cabinet approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and the Insurance Authority of United Arab Emirates. It provides for enhanced cooperation in insurance supervision by providing a framework for channels of communication.
>> The US Federal Reserve left their key interest rate unchanged at 0.25-0.50%. The central bank’s said the labor market had improved further despite a recent economic slowdown and that it was keeping a close eye on inflation.
>> The Union Cabinet approved state-owned Bharat Petroleum’s (BPCL) plan to invest ₹3,000 crore in its joint venture Bharat Oman Refineries (BORL) for capacity expansion in the BORL’s refinery in Bina, Madhya Pradesh.
>> The Bank of Japan has kept the negative interest rates on the current accounts held by financial institutions at the central bank unchanged at (-)0.1%. Further, the bank also postponed the time frame for reaching a 2% inflation target to the next fiscal.
