☀ Punjab Government has launched a Rapid Rural Police Response System (RRPRS) to ensure prompt and effective police response in all the 12,000 villages across the state.
☀ India’s first Commercial Court and Commercial Disputes Resolution Centre has been inaugurated at Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh state.
☀ Indian Navy has launched the 4th in the series of Follow-on Water Jet Fast Attack Craft (FO-WJFAC) called INS Tarasa. The name of the ship is based on the picturesque island in the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
☀ The 3rd phase of the ‘Mission Indradhanush’ is set to cover 13 districts in Madhya Pradesh. It was launched in 2015, aimed at the full immunisation of children against 7 vaccine-preventable diseases (Diphtheria, Whooping cough, Tetanus, Polio, Tuberculosis, Measles and Hepatitis B), by 2020.
☀ According to data released by the Tourism Ministry, Tamil Nadu was the top tourist destination in India for the second consecutive year in 2015, with 333.5 million domestic and 4.68 million foreign tourist arrivals.
Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh were other top destinations for domestic tourists. While foreign tourists prefer Maharashtra, UP, and Delhi.
☀ The 1st meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency has begun in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This two day conference will be attended by all 5 member BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries.
- The Union Power Ministry is hosting this meeting of the Working Group.

☀ California Governor Jerry Brown has signed into law six measures which limit the purchase and possession of rifles, expanding background checks and banning the possession of magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds.
☀ NASA’s $1.1 billion Juno spacecraft has successfully entered the orbit of Jupiter, the largest planet of the solar system. It was launched five years ago, to study Jupiter’s composition, gravity, magnetic field and search clues about the planet’s formation.
- Note that: Juno is the second spacecraft to orbit Jupiter, following the Galileo probe which orbited from year 1995–2003.
☀ Linda Burney, has became the first Indigenous woman to be elected to the House of Representatives (lower house) of the Parliament of Australia.
☀ The Pacific military exercise, RIMPAC 2016 (Rim of the Pacific Exercise), has begun at Hawaii with 26 nations participating in the war games that will cover the Hawaiian Island and southern California. RIMPAC 2016 is the 25th exercise in the series that began in 1971.

☀ South African writer and filmmaker, Liduduma lingani has won the Caine Prize 2016 for his short story, ‘Memories We Lost’. The prize is popularly known as the “African Booker”.
- The Caine Prize is £10,000 prize founded in the United Kingdom in 2000, named in memory of Sir Michael Harris Caine, former Chairman of Booker Group plc.
☀ China‘s internet regulator has issued a directive that online media cannot publish any unverified content, especially from social media sites. China already has internet censorship laws. This step is a part of its campaign against fake news and the spreading of rumours.
☀ The final book of the Harry Potter series, ‘The Deathly Hallows’ is recognised by Guinness World Records as ‘the fastest selling book of fiction in 24 hours‘ with a total of 15 million books sold.
- With 12 million books printed in its first run, it also holds a record for the ‘highest initial print run for a fiction book’.

This first of its kind system has been launched as part of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ initiatives implemented at JNPT Port.
☀ China’s yuan has slumped against the dollar to reach a new 5 year low for the 2nd consecutive day of trading.
The yuan has hit 6.6642, the lowest since December 2010 due to extended dollar buying in the market.

☀ Indian shuttler Sai Praneeth has defeated Korea’s Lee Hyun Il in the Men’s singles final of the 2016 Canada Open held in Calgary. This is Praneeth’s first Grand Prix title.
☀ The official theme song of the Rio Olympics, titled ‘Alma e Coração’ (Heart and Soul), has been released. Four children, whose stories have inspired this song, are also featured in the music video.
☀ Indian shuttlers Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy have won the men’s doubles title at the 2016 Canada Open.
☀ American film director, screenwriter, producer and author Michael Cimino has passed away at age of 77 years. He is known for his Vietnam War classic, the academy award winning film The Deer Hunter (1978).
