■ The Government has proposed rolling out of e-Sansad in Parliament and e-Vidhan in State Legislatures to digitise and make their functioning paperless. This environment-friendly initiative is in line with the Go Green initiative of the government. The proposal will be discussed at the 18th All India Whips’ Conference in Udaipur, Rajasthan to be inaugurated by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar. The two-day conference will focus on the efficient functioning of legislatures where the delegates will make their suggestions and recommendations for making the rolling out of e-Vidhan a success.
What is a Whip? A whip is a member of a political party’s Parliamentary body responsible for discipline within the party members in the Parliament.
■ The Uttar Pradesh State government has said that loudspeakers will not be allowed without permission at Public places including all religious places. A government order giving detailed instructions has been issued on the directions of the Allahabad High Court regarding ensuring implementation of noise pollution control rules. This step has been taken to keep noise pollution under control.
Note that: Hearing a PIL, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had directed that the loudspeakers installed at public places should not continue without permission. The loudspeakers cannot have a sound level more than 10 decibels above ambient noise level at the periphery of a public place and 5 decibels above ambient noise level at the periphery of a private place.
■ In Gujarat, a week-long International kite festival began at Sabarmati River Front in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani inaugurated the colourful festival in the presence of Governor O. P. Kohli. About 149 foreign kite fliers from 44 countries are participating in this edition of the international kite festival. More than 300 kite fliers from Gujarat and other state are also participating in the event.

■ Actor Sterling K Brown has created history by becoming the first African-American to win a Golden Globe award for best actor in a drama television series. Brown bagged the accolades for his role in NBC’s breakout hit “This Is Us”.
■ Jordan has agreed to a UN request for delivering humanitarian aid to stranded Syrians across the Rukban border crossing between the two countries. According to UN estimates based on satellite images, between 45- 50 thousand Syrians have been stuck for months on the Syrian side of the frontier near the Rukban border crossing, amid worsening conditions for them as winter grips the region.
The UN refugee agency has registered more than 6 lakh 50 thousand Syrian refugees in Jordan since the conflict in Syria began in March 2011.

■ Novelist and intellectual giant of Sri Lankan origin, Ambalavaner Sivanandan has passed away at age of 94 years. He won the 1998 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize in the ‘Best First Book category for Europe and South Asia’ for his novel, ‘When Memory Dies’.
